Advocacy
The Washington State Alliance of YMCA’s understands that as a leading nonprofit in the state we have an obligation to inform and advocate. YMCAs in the state prioritize supporting Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
The Alliance is committed to building strong relationships with local, state and national leaders and strives to be a trusted nonpartisan voice on issues impacting our communities. The advocacy priorities selected each year are developed by the public policy committee. During legislative sessions priorities may shift based on legislation being proposed.
2026 Public Policy Priorities
Washington State YMCAs remain committed to high quality and affordable early learning and school age child care.
Every child deserves safe, affordable care. Every parent deserves the ability to work without sacrificing their child’s well-being. By prioritizing child care, we strengthen families, communities, and Washington’s economy.
We advocate to:
Protect Working Connections Child Care Subsidy Rate eligibility for families who qualify.
Protect the Working Connections Child Care (WCCC) Subsidy Rate Increase to 85% of the 2024 Market Rate Survey
Address barriers that cause challenges to recruiting and retaining child care professionals.
National Advocacy
The Washington State Alliance shares many priorities with YMCAs across the country. When appropriate Washington State YMCAs advocate for issues at the national level that have local impact.
Be An Advocate
We welcome anyone who wants to help us achieve our mission. Employees, members, program participants and volunteers all make great YMCA Advocates.
