Prescribe the Y

YMCAs in Washington recognize that health care professionals often don’t have the time and frequency of interaction with patients that is needed to help build sustainable lifestyle routines conducive to long-term disease prevention and management. When over 80% of health outcomes are influenced by factors outside of clinical care, and almost 90% of all healthcare spending in our country is spent on chronic health conditions, we know something needs to change.

The Y is your partner in health. Our extensive network of facilities, fitness and coaching professionals, and evidence-based health programs make us a crucial partner in turning around the tide of chronic disease burden and spending. Any health care professional in WA can Prescribe the Y for their patients to connect them to physical activity, health behavior change, and more. The YMCA of Greater Seattle administers the Patient Referral Program.

  • Y staff can present about our health programs and how to refer to them at any gathering of referring providers or care team members. We have presented at lunch meetings, district medical meetings, clinic rounds, staff education days, or however you convene relevant staff.  Send statewide inquiries or schedule provider education by YMCA staff statewide, by emailing Sally Sundar, ssundar@seattleymca.org.
