Washington YMCA Aquatic Leaders Unite to Plan for the Future

‍ ‍

Aquatic leaders from across Washington recently gathered in Yakima for a collaborative and forward-looking event focused on strengthening aquatic programs and enhancing community impact throughout the state. The YMCA has long been recognized as a leading organization in water safety and teaching kids to swim.

During this two day event 25 YMCA aquatic professionals came together to exchange knowledge, discuss emerging trends, examine best practices, evaluate program data, and collaborate on a shared vision for the future of aquatic programming in Washington. Discussions centered on increasing youth access to swim lessons by building effective partnerships with school districts and community organizations, lifeguard recruitment and training, operational effectiveness, and the evolving needs of swimmers and families across the state.

Participants left with new ideas, strengthened relationships, and a renewed commitment to advancing aquatic programs that help communities thrive. “This gathering really showcased the power of collaboration,” said Randy Heath, Executive Director of the Washington State Alliance of YMCAs, “the richness of the discussion and the passion that this group has for ensuring that kids learn to swim was inspiring.”

A special thank-you goes to the Yakima Family YMCA for hosting the event and creating a welcoming space for meaningful dialogue and connection. Appreciation is also extended to Aquafinity for its sponsorship and support, helping make the gathering possible.

As Washington’s YMCA aquatic leaders continue working together, the momentum generated during this event will help drive innovation, strengthen programs, and create a lasting impact in communities across the state.
